ERIC BJORKMAN, Physical Therapist

Eric Bjorkman has 4 years experience with orthotic and prosthetic out-patient rehabilitation. Eric Bjorkman and Eric Hammerschmidt have worked closely over that time developing strategies to best serve their patients through a team-approach. The evolution of orthotic and prosthetic delivery within this partnership has been beneficial to patient care. Better outcomes and improved patient satisfaction have been the result of this unique and innovative care plan.

Mr. Bjorkman’s involvement with Orthotic & Prosthetic Solutions, inc consists of ownership, management and protocol development activities as well as consulting during prosthetic evaluations. The incorporation of physical therapy into an orthotic or prosthetic evaluation helps with determination of future functional levels, selection of appropriate components and problem-solving. A dual evaluation allows for different perspectives to be discussed, for example deciding between the need for prosthetic alterations and/or specific strengthening to enhance the function of the prosthesis. General physical therapy techniques are used to assess strength, range of motion, balance and functional mobility. In addition, we incorporate the Amputee Mobility Index to assist with decision-making.

Eric Bjorkman’s orthotic and prosthetic education includes coursework at Northwestern University Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences and continuing education from Robert Gailey, PhD, PT. His course is titled: “One Step Ahead: An Integrated Approach to Lower Extremity Prosthetics and Amputee Rehabilitation.”
